Richard William Jonland, 63, of Cherry, passed away Aug. 1, 2010, in Heritage Manor in Chisholm.
Dick was born May 21, 1947, in Duluth to Richard and Blanche (Larson) Jonland. He attended Merritt, West Junior and Denfeld High School, graduating in 1965.
He served in Vietnam where he was point man at Hamburger Hill. Dick received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
He married Diane Trende on July 6, 2001, in Hibbing.
Dick owned Cherry Coachworks and he enjoyed working independently doing body restoration on vehicles. He especially liked working for Solid Waste Management in St. Louis County for eight years.
Richard is survived by his wife, Diane Jonland of Cherry; parents Richard and Blanche Jonland of Duluth; sisters Kathleen (Jay) Ryan of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., and Lorraine (Jim) Stoll of Chaska, Minn.; brother-in-Law Richard (Char) Trende of Hudson, Wis.; nieces and nephews James, Tim and Kristina Ryan, Jim, Jason, Heidi and Brian Stoll, Beth and Chris Murphy, Andrea (Kory) Werk and Scott Trende; several aunts, uncles and cousins, including special cousin and friend Stephen (Martha) Jonland of Proctor; and several grandnephews and nieces.
