Hammond (Stromgren), Marcia E  Born 11/27/47.  Died 7/6/24.

Marcia passed away peacefully after a brief illness. Born in Duluth, MN to Edgar and Betty (Dryke) Hammond, she attended Denfeld High School where she graduated in 1965. After graduation, she attended Duluth Business University, taking clerical courses including learning key punch. After her DBU education she worked for a number of companies in the Duluth area, including St Louis County Savings and Loan.

In 1967, she married John Stromgren on Treasure Island Navel Base. After marrying John, she became a stay at home mom to their 3 children and encouraged them to be independent, adventurous and open to learning new things. Marcia also became an active member of her community and was involved with fighting for the sanctity of life, active in home school issues, and helped out many people on their political campaigns. She championed numerous causes that included  gambling restrictions, as well as more recently, fighting against the school board Red Plan. She served as township board secretary and then supervisor for several years; she then went on to be elected as a South St Louis County Soil and Water District Supervisor where she served for 21 years. She was also a videographer and producer at Pact TV, where she won Member of the Year in 2013. Marcia was known as both the “Egg Lady” and the “Fruit Lady” offering a wide variety of fresh eggs and fruit to her community. Marcia also helped John run their storage business for many years.

Her hobbies included sewing, photography, gardening, crafts, political involvement and always had a love for animals. Marcia had a strong interest in natural health and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with anyone she could. Her skills with horticulture [especially flowers] were astounding! She helped John finish off the maple syrup batches every year for roughly 40 years: making up to 4 gallons in a season. In addition, she made the best fruit leather to give to her family at Christmas.

Marcia experienced the death of her mother, father, and brother, David Hammond. She left behind her husband John, sons Todd (Amy), Eric (Tena), and daughter Naomi (Ryan). She was blessed to have her granddaughters, Anja, Isla, Tevia (Ben), Donya, Signe, Quinn and Lucy, as well as her sister-in-law Sally, nieces Evamarie and Yvonne, and good friends.

A service will be held on August 24, 2024 at 11am with a visitation starting at 10am at Anchor Point Community Church, 5202 Colorado St., Duluth, MN. A luncheon will follow. If you would like to make a donation in honor of Marcia to one of her favorite organizations, please send donations to Pro-life Ministries, P.O. Box 161018, Duluth, MN 55816.
