My wife, Sue and I were selected to receive tickets for the inauguration of President Obama from Sen. Amy Klobuchar and then also an invitation to the Midwest Regional Inaugural Ball from Rep. Jim Oberstar! We were very excited about being able to experience the “total package” of such a historic event by enjoying the 'We Are One concert', the Inauguration and the Midwest Regional Ball. The crowds and lines were overwhelming! You have no idea what it’s like to be in the middle of two million people! We got up at 3 a.m. for the inauguration and caught the 4 a.m. Metro train into D.C. from our hotel in Greenbelt, Md. We stood in a huge line for our assigned “purple section standing area” for almost seven hours, only to be told they closed the purple entry gates to the Capitol grounds! They obviously allotted way too many tickets, as there were at least 2,000 to 3,000 folks still behind us in line winding down two streets and through a huge tunnel! With a lot of prayer and persistance, we made it onto the grounds of the Capitol only two minutes before President Obama was sworn in. We felt very lucky to have been there to experience this once in a lifetime event.
