David was born in Duluth, to Hoyt and Lois (Sundstrom) Engen. Â He was employed as a bus driver for the Superior School District for 20 years, retiring in October of 2009.
He served his country in the United States Army for three years, in which one was stationed in Vietnam as a Military Policeman.
David married his wife, Arlene Anderson on July 31, 1971 in Port Wing, Wis., and celebrated 38 years of marriage.
He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Superior Community Band where he played the trumpet.
David's greatest joy was his family and spending time at his cabin at East Bass Lake in Cotton, Minn. He enjoyed playing his trumpet on the lake and always at family and friend's birthdays. He enjoyed traveling with his family, bike rides and walking with his wife Arlene.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hoyt and two brothers, Gregory and James.
In addition to his wife, Arlene, David is survived by two daughters, Tammy (Brian) Seol, San Diego, Calif., Jamie Engen, Nashville, Tenn.; one grandson, Carsen Seol, San Diego, Calif.; his mother, Lois Engen, Superior, Wis.; two brothers, John (Cheryl) Engen, Alborn, Minn., Jeff (Sue) Engen, Peoria, Ariz.; one sister, Audrey (Mark) Senarighi, Cloquet, Minn.; his father and mother-in-law, Floyd 'Bing' and Viola Anderson, Port Wing, Wis.; one sister-in-law, Betty (Tom) Tapani, Chisago City, Minn.; special friends, Ray and Bev Boggess, Superior and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
