Gerald Edwin 'Gerry' Eider, 50, died in St. Mary's Medical Center.
He was born in Northwood, N.D to Edwin and Mildred (Johnson) Eider. The Eider family moved to Duluth in 1951, and Gerry graduated from Denfeld High School in 1965. Mr. Eider was a United States Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from 1965-1975, and attaining the rank of chief petty officer. On Dec. 28, 1968, Gerry married Kathryn Bourgeois in Duluth and together they raised two children. Gerry was employed with Diamond Tool and Horseshoe Co. until his retirement due to health problems.
During his employment with Diamond Tool, Gerry attended Duluth Area Vocational Technical Institute, receiving a degree in computer programming and later a degree in nursing with an LPN license.
He was a member of Duluth Gospel Tabernacle, where he was a leader in the Royal Ranger Program for many years.
Gerald was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn; a son, Jamie Eider (Lori Johnson); and a daughter Tiffany (Daniel) Ellis, all of Duluth; mother, Mildred Eider of Nopeming; five sisters, Joyce (Robert) Ellingsen and Elaine Eider, all of Duluth, Merry (Kenneth) Rotier of Champlin, Minn., Laura (Patrick) Strumbell of Moose Lake and Lisa (Thomas) Morinville of Duluth; two brothers, Dennis Eider of Duluth and John Eider of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Benjamin Ellis, Caleb Eider, and grandchild No. 3, due to be born in June, all of Duluth.
