Stortz (Nickolett), Cheryl Ann.  Born 1/29/47. Died 6/5/24.  

Cheryl, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Cheryl's life was a testament to love, dedication, and unyielding spirit.

Cheryl was born in Duluth, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Swedish immigrants who instilled in her a deep appreciation for her heritage, and traditions she shared with her family. Cheryl's childhood in Duluth fostered her lifelong love of nature and the outdoors, a passion that remained with her throughout her life. Cheryl had an unwavering affection for horses and all animals, a love she passed on to her granddaughters.

Cheryl's family was her greatest joy. She is survived by her two sons, Stephen Nickolett and Darron Nickolett, who were the light of her life. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, who adoringly referred to her as “Mama Nick�: Elizabeth, Erica, Ethan, and Denver Nickolett, who brought her immense pride and happiness.

A talented poet, Cheryl had a gift for weaving words into beautiful and poignant expressions of her thoughts and feelings. Her poetry captured the essence of her experiences and emotions, leaving a lasting impact on those around her.

Cheryl's professional journey took her to Kansas, where she worked as a manager at Southwestern Bell for 33 years. Her relocation to Kansas was a new chapter in her life, one where she proudly raised her sons and created many lifelong friendships. Cheryl later retired at Table Rock Lake with Bruce, where they enjoyed getting together with their friends and nature.

Cheryl is preceded in death by her parents Mavis and George Stortz. Cheryl is survived by her loving sisters Georgia (Dr. Robert) Sjoberg, Debra (Randall) Decker, Rosemary (Les) Adolphson, Anne (Jim) Williams, and Lori (Rod) Haugen. Her close-knit family provided her with endless support and companionship, forming bonds that remained unbreakable throughout her life. She also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

A celebration of Cheryl's life will be held at The Buffalo House in Duluth, MN, on Sunday, August 18th, from 12-3 PM. This gathering will be a time for family and friends to come together, share memories, and honor the remarkable life that Cheryl lived. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Parkinson's Foundation in Cheryl's memory, to support ongoing research and help others affected by this disease.

Cheryl’s family extends their deepest gratitude to her caregivers and medical team for their compassionate care. Cheryl Nickolett's legacy is one of pride, love, strength, and creativity. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who knew her. Though she is no longer with us, her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Rest in peace, Cheryl. Your life was a blessing, and you will be forever missed.

In God's loving arms, we know Cheryl now rides free in Heaven. May God bless Cheryl and grant her eternal peace. Amen.
